As usual at his time of year we set off in search of ‘Open Studios’ in Hampshire. We had heard about Geoffrey Dashwood and went to his house on the outskirts of Ringwood. The setting is wonderful with superb views over the Avon valley. He has a showroom/studio here and the items that don’t fit inside are placed around his garden.

We visited Tony and Ellen in Waterlooville for the day. After lunch we went to Hayling Island to find some geocaches and have a walk along the coast.
A couple of days later we visited Graham and Jean in Marlborough. After a coffee we went to Crofton Beam Engine nearby. We visited here last year, but today the engines were in steam and doing the job they were designed for - topping up the nearby canal which is 12 metres higher than any reliable natural water source.
As it was one of their special days there was a small Rolls Royce Rally.
Stoking the Lancashire boiler built in 1899 – it was hard work.
